OUR BERRIES

HARVEST - LATE MARCH TO EARLY JUNE
We call it organized chaos!

Starting in late March, our early varieties are ready for harvesting. Our team carefully and quickly picks and packs the blueberries. From Field Heat to 33° in 24-36 hours and off to the local retailer in a temperature-controlled truck.

SUMMER
Directly after harvest we prune all blueberry bushes and cultivate the soil around the bushes, removing weeds, grass and any foreign plant material from fields. Once pruned, new growth is quick to emerge and glimpses of the next years’ bounty can be seen taking shape.

LATE FALL - WINTER
Ensuring that our berries are fully dormant and protected from any potential freeze damage is our greatest concern during these months. Making a critical winterization error could devastate a crop and the very livelihood of the entire farming crew. When threatened with a cold snap, it is with great vigilance that we set to protecting the berries with the latest in overhead irrigation and weather technology to maintain the quality of the upcoming harvest.

LATE WINTER - EARLY SPRING
As the warmth of Spring comes along, so do the honeybees, bumble bees and pollination. While the bees do their work, the team continues to create the best possible environment for the berries through fertigation, irrigation, weed and disease control.

With irrigation and field maintenance well controlled, blooms are now emerging and berries begin to take shape, the field is beautiful and exciting.

OUR STORY

2004
Our century-old parent-company, Superior Pine Products took to diversifying their land holding interests and dedicated a portion of their expansive acreage to the production of blueberries. It is here that Superior Berries was born.

2004 - 2015
We originally planted the Rabbiteye variety of blueberry which rocketed us into being the largest Rabbiteye variety farm in GA in that timeframe.

2014
We planted our first Southern Highbush varieties: Farthing, Meadowlark, and Legacy, launching our conversion into devoting more acreage to the fresh market. As a result, Superior Berries Company would rely mostly on hand-picking and less on machine-picking. Our packing facility is located in Homerville, Georgia.

TODAY
We are continually looking for new and better ways to grow and have an 18 acre research plot where we are trying out new farming techniques and crops. Over time we have widened our market windows through earlier and longer lasting production, are continually maximizing profits and exploring various agricultural entities that would prove beneficial to the Superior Berry Farm.

Ever progressing, ever growing and dedicated to managing, preserving and protecting the rich and lush soil of this beautiful Georgia farmland. It is with time honored dedication, passion and experience that we bring to you this highest quality, best tasting, “Superior Berry” in the South. It’s simply what we do.
